KS1

Ace Tutoring connects Key Stage 1 students with tutors who specialise in foundational learning. Our carefully vetted tutors are experts in the Key Stage 1 curriculum and are passionate about nurturing young minds. Through personalised approaches, we help students master essential literacy and numeracy skills, fostering confidence and academic success.

Key Stage 1 (KS1) is the legal term for the two years of schooling in maintained schools in England and Wales normally known as Year 1 and Year 2, when pupils are aged between 5 and 7.

At the end of Key Stage 1, students have to undertake a set of tests as part of the curriculum. Tutoring Guru aims to provide assistance with preparing students for these.

The test includes:

Year 1 phonics screening check: The check will take place in June when your child will read 40 words out loud to a teacher. You’ll find out how your child did, and their teacher will assess whether he or she needs extra help with reading. If your child does not do well enough in the check, they’ll have to do it again in Year 2.

Key stage 1 tests cover:

English reading
English grammar, punctuation and spelling
Maths

Your child will take the tests in May. You can ask the school for the test results.

We aim to cover key topics including:

English:

Reading:Developing phonics skills, reading comprehension, and fluency.
Writing:Learning to write sentences, narratives, descriptions, and non-fiction texts.
Speaking and Listening:Developing communication skills through discussions, presentations, and drama activities.
